About the event

As part of our centennial celebration of Liu Shiming, the Liu Shiming Art Foundation presents the launch of Liu Shiming: Sculpting Empathy, a new monograph by Richard Vine. This book launch event is presented in collaboration with EDEN Arts Foundation.
The evening will feature a conversation between Richard Vine and Maëlle Ebelle, Gallery Director of the Liu Shiming Art Foundation, offering a closer look at the research and stories behind the book. Together they will reflect on Liu Shiming’s life and artistic journey, from his training at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing to the intimate sculptures inspired by everyday life that came to define his deeply humanist vision.
Richard Vine is the former Managing Editor of Art in America and a longtime critic and writer on contemporary art. He holds a PhD in literature from the University of Chicago and has written hundreds of critical essays and two nonfiction books on contemporary art.
The presentation will be followed by a book signing with the author.
