The Liu Shiming Art Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Maëlle Ebelle as the new Gallery Director and Curator of the Liu Shiming Art Gallery in New York City.
Ebelle joins the Foundation after leading Ceysson & Bénétière’s New York and Luxembourg galleries, where she organized exhibitions with artists including Alina Bliumis, Adam Himebauch, Sandra Lieners, Rachael Tarravechia, Jean-Luc Verna, and members of the late-1960s French collective Supports/Surfaces. She will begin her role in September, 2025.
“I’m incredibly honored to join the Liu Shiming Art Foundation and to lead the Liu Shiming Art Gallery programming,” said Ebelle. “Liu Shiming’s vision of art as a bridge between communities and as a tool to celebrate the complexity of the human experience deeply resonates with me. I’m excited to build on his powerful legacy by curating exhibitions that not only showcase his remarkable work but also celebrate and challenge ideas of interconnectedness, cultural dialogue, and the evolving goals of our global society.”
As gallery director and curator, Ebelle will develop exhibitions that expand Liu Shiming’s mission of uplifting art rooted in common humanity and fostering global arts discourse. Her approach will range from pairing Liu’s work with contemporary artists from China, the U.S., and beyond, to organizing thematic exhibitions that address connection, compassion, and collective action.
Ebelle’s first year will include preparations for the 2026 centennial of Liu Shiming’s birth, with exhibitions honoring his legacy and the work of artists who share his vision. We look forward to working with Ebelle in the coming years as she brings her vision and curatorial expertise to both the Liu Shiming Art Gallery and Foundation.
